Statistics publicized by the central bank Maldives Monetary Authority indicate that the average inflation rate in Maldives in 2025 was at 4 percent.

As per the MMA's Annual Report, inflation last year was largely owed to price increases in tobacco and food products. The hike in food product prices let to higher pricing in restaurants and eateries, while the prices of energy-related products also saw an increase.

The current account deficit for last year decreased. This was largely due to the increase in tourism sector revenue, according to MMA.

Maldives recorded economic growth by 6.3 percent last year. For 2026, MMA projects economic growth of 5.3 percent, with the tourist sector expected to show 4.8 percent growth. However, these figures were presented before the war in the Middle East broke out.

Taking the Middle East war and subsequent challenges into account, MMA has stated that the tourism sector, as well as overall economic growth, will be heavily impacted.

With fuel prices having gone up due to the war, this, too, will have an impact on inflation in the Maldives, MMA has said.
