The government has made arrangements under which fishing vessels will be able to purchase fuel at STO shed rates from tomorrow onwards, the Fisheries Ministry confirmed today.
The Ministry said that vessels registered under 'Fahi Hakatha' will be able to purchase fuel at subsidized rates.
Fuel at subsidized rates will be available at these islands:
- HA. Ihavandhoo
- HDh. Hanimaadhoo
- Sh. Milandhoo
- R. Dhuvaafaru
- B. Eydhafushi
- Lh. Naifaru
- K. Himmafushi
- F. Nilandhoo
- GA. Kooddoo
- Fuvahmulah
- Hulhumeedhoo, Addu
- Hulhumale' Jetty
With fuel price changes brought about due to the war in the Middle East, a litre of diesel is now priced at MVR 17.54 at STO.
The government has launched this initiative at a time when many fishing vessels have brought a halt to fisheries activities due to rising fuel costs. This has, in turn, decreased catch and caused shortages and price hikes of fish products in the market.
