Bank of Maldives (BML) has established a world record by launching 90 Recycler ATM services simultaneously across the Maldives.
At a ceremony held tonight, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the services of 70 Dollar ATMs and 20 Maldivian Rufiyaa ATMs.
The ceremony was attended by the Bank’s Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, the Bank’s CEO and Managing Director, as well as senior officials of the Bank and senior government leaders.
The MVR ATMs inaugurated Wednesday night have been placed in islands where BML branches are currently operating. The details of the USD ATMs placed in 70 islands are as follows:
- HA. Atoll: 5 Dollar ATMs
- HDh. Atoll: 5 Dollar ATMs
- Sh. Atoll: 4 Dollar ATMs
- N. Atoll: 4 Dollar ATMs
- R. Atoll: 6 Dollar ATMs
- B. Atoll: 5 Dollar ATMs
- Lh. Atoll: 3 Dollar ATMs
- K. Atoll: 10 Dollar ATMs
- AA. Atoll: 3 Dollar ATMs
- ADh. Atoll: 6 Dollar ATMs
- V. Atoll: 3 Dollar ATMs
- F. Atoll: 1 Dollar ATM
- M. Atoll: 3 Dollar ATMs
- Dh. Atoll: 1 Dollar ATM
- Th. Atoll: 4 Dollar ATMs
- L. Atoll: 3 Dollar ATMs

Speaking at the ceremony, Shareef stated that starting the service of such a large number of Recycler ATMs at once is something no other bank in the world has done until now.
"Therefore, this is a world record," he said.
Furthermore, at the ceremony, President Muizzu also inaugurated new BML branches established in six additional islands.
The islands where the new branches were opened are:
- HDh. Hanimaadhoo
- AA. Thoddoo
- Th. Vilufushi
- S. Hulhudhoo
- Th. Hirilandhoo
- HDh. Kulhudhuffushi
Among these branches, BML stated that the branch opened in Kulhudhuffushi is a Business Center specifically dedicated to providing services to businesses, and services will be available from these branches starting tomorrow.
BML stated that these branches will work to provide services close to customers and from wherever the customers are located.
Shareef stated that in an era where everything is becoming digital, the Bank does not at all wish for the close relationship with customers to become distant.
Therefore, Shareef said that the employees of these branches will not be staff who always remain inside the branches.
"The role of those employees is to visit homes as well as businesses. To also travel to other islands near the island where the branch is established. To provide information on the Bank's products and services. And to promote financial literacy and increase awareness to stay safe from scams," he said.
According to Shareef, even as the Bank's services become digital, the Bank will remain ready to provide services very closely to its customers.
