The Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), the company that provides Maldives with water and sewerage services, is celebrating their 31st anniversary.
The company was formed in 1995 to solve the water and sewerage issues Maldives was and is experiencing. The company started with 60 employees. The company began serving 60,000 people and their services expanded, with the company having more than 1,000 employees and serving 50 percent of the Maldivian population.

MWSC has been successfully operating with 100 percent Maldivian management.
Along with the Male' region, MWSC has been serving Thilafushi, K. Maafushi, R. Dhuvaafaru and HDh. Kulhudhuffushi. Along with water and sewerage services to R. Dhuvaafaru, they are also offering services such as electricity, waste management and ice supply to fishermen.
MWSC has been taking important steps to strengthen the infrastructure of water and water security in the Male' region to provide a sustainable service in emergency situations and when water is needed the most. Last year, they had established two RO plants at the Male' operation center capable of producing 750 and 1,000 tons of water daily, two RO plants at the Hulhumale' operation center capable of producing 350 tons of water daily and one RO plant capable of producing 2,500 tons of water daily.
With that, the total capacity to produce water in the Male' region has gone up from 44,950 tons to 49,900 tons. A water storage tank capable of holding 10,000 tons of water at the Hulhumale' operations center has been established and is now in operation. Total water storage in the Greater Male' area has gone up from 40,445 tons to 50,445 tons, seeing growth worth 25 percent.
With the main water network built via the Sinamale' Bridge having been completed and in temporary use to connect the Male' and Hulhumale' water networks, arrangements were made to send 60 cubic meters of water at any time.

In order to ensure water and sewerage services in atolls, MWSC has installed a 150 ton RO plant to produce water daily at HDh. Kulhudhuffushi's operation center to increase water production.
This increased the island's water production rate to 700 tons daily and saw a total growth of 27 percent. An additional generator set was installed in R. Dhuvaafaru, the island's main electricity grid increased, electricity production increased to 4,268 kilowatts and electricity production capabilities increased to 16 percent, so as to provide electricity services in a sustainable and trustworthy manner to the island's residents and businesses.
MWSC's services were digitalized under "Maldives 2.0" to increase the quality of services provided to customers, with important changes having been brought to the company's mobile application and e-portal within the last year in order to offer easy and accessible services to its customers.
With these changes, customers can pay their bills, request services, check bill details and water usage via one digital platform anywhere they are. The company is currently working to introduce new prepaid and smart meter services.

MWSC has successfully completed a total of 111 water and sewerage projects across various islands in Maldives. The company has completed water and sewerage work in four islands this year, with them having signed agreements for seven projects with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure in order to establish water and sewerage systems in six islands. Practical work on some of the projects have already begun, with preparations currently underway for the rest of the projects.
Along with utility services, MWSC offers other notable services within engineering, trading and manufacturing. This includes designing, establishing and operating water and sewerage systems, and designing and fabricating their own water plants. The company is also providing world-famous products related to water and sewerage systems at MWSC's showroom. Water analysis services are also being provided from the company's ISO 17025: 2005 standard laboratory to resorts, professional consultants and more on a commercial basis.
The company also produces bottled water at their factory based in Hulhumale', produces various pipes required for wiring water and water and sewerage work at the pipe factory in K. Gulhi Falhu, and the production of conduit pipes of various sizes required for electricity wiring.
MWSC's aim is to provide innovative services. The company said that they will continue to work on further expanding the services they offer in the years to come.
