The Embassy of Japan in the Maldives hosted “An Evening of Nippon Delights” at Nihonbashi Blue, Crossroads Maldives, on Monday, March 30, to promote Japanese food and beverages.
The event was attended by Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim, alongside representatives from the hospitality sector, including resort operators and food importers, offering a platform to strengthen connections between Japanese businesses and key Maldivian stakeholders.

Japanese products, from sake and green tea to Wagyu beef, were showcased with support from major importer Sara International Co. Ltd. Yamaki Co. Ltd, which operates a katsuboshi production subsidiary (YMAK) in Addu City, introduced products using Maldivian bonito, highlighting the quality and diversity of Japanese ingredients and their potential in the local market.
The Embassy’s chef demonstrated Maguro Nigiri and served traditional Japanese clear soup (Osuimono) using katsuboshi supplied by YAMAKI, offering participants an authentic taste of Washoku, Japan’s traditional cuisine recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013.
The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Japanese food culture and strengthening economic ties between Japan and the Maldives.
