Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has filed lawsuits demanding over MVR 22 million as unpaid taxes.
The charges were filed last week at the Civil Court. A total of 15 have been charged including different companies and individuals. The total amount comprises of fees as Goods and Services Tax (GST), Business Profit Tax (BPT) and fines from unpaid BPT taxes.
The court has accepted all of the cases filed by MIRA. Previous cases of unpaid taxes are also ongoing at court.
In addition to files cases against these companies and individuals, MIRA also takes actions against them under the Tax Administration Act. These include freezing bank accounts and deducting the unpaid sums, and ceasing services from state institutions.
