Maldivian Airlines has resumed direct flights to Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.

The service resumed today after the airline had suspended flights to Dhaka in May last year. Passengers arriving on the first flight from Dhaka were welcomed upon arrival this morning.

The airline said the decision to restart the route was made following requests from many Maldivians who travel to Bangladesh.

Maldivian also said the resumption of the service ahead of Eid would make travel easier for both locals and foreigners planning trips during the holiday period.

The airline noted that many people travel to Bangladesh throughout the year for various purposes and therefore flights to Dhaka will continue year-round, in addition to the seasonal increase in demand around Eid.

Maldivian will operate flights to Dhaka twice a week, on Sunday and Thursdays. The flights will depart in the morning and will be scheduled alongside services to Maldives and Dhaka to facilitate easier connections for passengers requiring additional flights. The airline also said the number of tourists travelling to the Maldives from Dhaka is increasing, enabling them to travel easily to different parts of Maldives.

Tickets for the route can be purchased through the airline’s website, mobile app, call centre (1671) or by email. Passengers in Bangladesh can obtain ticketing services through Galaxy Aviation, Maldivian’s general sales agent.

Maldivian operates the route using its Airbus A320 aircraft.
