MVR 7.2 billion collected in first two months of the year

The largest increases in revenue came from Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST), green tax, bank profit tax, land acquisition fees and airport development fees.

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) collected MVR 7.2 billion in revenue during the first two months of this year, according to the latest figures released by the authority.

The amount represents an 18 percent increase compared with the same period last year, when the government received MVR 6.1 billion. That is an increase of MVR 1.1 billion compared to last year.

The largest increases in revenue came from Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST), green tax, bank profit tax, land acquisition fees and airport development fees.

TGST collections reached MVR 2.3 billion during the two-month period, compared with MVR 1.9 billion in the same period last year.

Revenue from bank profit tax rose significantly, with MVR 490 million collected this year compared with MVR 159 million during the same period last year.

Green tax revenue also increased significantly, reaching MVR 422 million, up from MVR 257 million in the first two months of last year.

MIRA also collected MVR 312 million in land acquisition fees and MVR 301 million in airport development fees.

In US dollar terms, the authority collected USD 253 million during the period, which is about 25 percent higher than the amount collected during the same period last year.
