The Maldives has been appointed as the official Host Country for "ITB Berlin 2027," the world's largest tourism trade fair.
The Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) stated last night that this opportunity will allow the Maldives to showcase its unique hospitality and the richness of its tourism industry to the entire world through the official branding of the exhibition.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Maldives by VMC CEO and MD Ibrahim Shiuree during a special ceremony held at the Maldives stand at ITB Berlin 2026, which is currently ongoing in Germany. Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin, signed on behalf of the company.

During the ceremony, Dr. Tobias stated that ITB Berlin is the most suitable platform to advertise the stunning beauty and evolving tourism of the Maldives on the international stage. He noted that this is a very important opportunity for the Maldives, as it is a place where stakeholders, experts, and numerous businesses from the global tourism sector meet in one location.
VMC stated that as the Host Country for next year, all sectors of Maldivian tourism will be promoted. The corporation mentioned that resorts, boutique hotels, diving, water sports, wellness, and cultural tourism, as well as the work the Maldives is doing for environmental protection and sustainable tourism, will be showcased at the exhibition.
"A year-long promotional campaign can be carried out. We are planning to do various things within that," VMC MD Shiuree said.
He noted that the honor of being the 2027 Host Country was secured by the Maldives after competing with other nations. Shiuree stated that this was an achievement attained through VMC's hard work after submitting a proposal. According to Shiuree, this opportunity is a golden chance to reveal the different experiences available from the Maldivian islands to the world.
As the Host Country, the Maldives will hold the official opening gala event on March 15, 2027.
Additionally, during the exhibition held from the 16th to the 18th of that month, the Maldives will conduct various activities, cultural performances, and networking events. The last time the Maldives held the position of Host Country for ITB Berlin was 10 years ago, in 2016.
