Mohamed Ishan has being appointed today as the Head of the central bank MMA's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
Prior to this appointment, Ishan had been serving as the Head of Finance at MMA. His appointment was confirmed after an internal application and interview process for the FIU Head's post, which became vacant following the dismissal of Ismail Sajid.
Ishan is an experienced Chartered Accountant. He is an Associate Member of the UK's Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and an Affiliate Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives.
Over his twelve-year career at MMA, Ishan has filled various senior positions, including Head of Corporate Accounts section and Head of Financial Controls division.
FIU is a special unit formed under the Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Act. As per the law, the FIU Head's appointment and dismissal fall solely under the MMA Governor's authority.
Sajid, who most recently filled the post, was dismissed under allegations of sexual harassment. He, however, denies the allegations.
