Bank of Maldives (BML) has extended the deadline for Umrah pilgrims to purchase US dollars through registered Umrah groups during Ramadan.

The special arrangement, which began on the 8th of last month, is being facilitated at the ground floor of the BML Customer Service Centre on Ameenee Magu.

The service had been scheduled to conclude last Thursday, but BML announced today that dollar issuance will now continue until Tuesday.

Dollars will be sold between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm on bank working days at the Customer Service Centre.

The service is limited to pilgrims listed under registered Umrah groups, with each pilgrim eligible to purchase up to USD 500.

Requirements to purchase dollars:

  • Payment must be made by debit card
  • The pilgrim must present their original national ID card or passport
  • If a representative is purchasing on behalf of a pilgrim, they must submit the original ID card of the pilgrim

During this period, BML Islamic Male' Branch, the Main Branch, Hulhumale' Branch and Vilimale' Branch will suspend dollar sales for Umrah pilgrims.

The bank said other Umrah pilgrims may withdraw dollars from the departure hall of Velana International Airport by completing the transaction through the bank’s USD booking portal.
