State Trading Organization (STO) has opened a People’s Choice retail outlet in Hulhumale' Phase 1.
The store, located in the Rain Coral Residence building on Reethigas Magu, was inaugurated yesterday by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.
STO Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim told Mihaaru News earlier this week that the decision to establish a retail presence in Hulhumale' was driven by customer demand.
He said customers in Hulhumale' frequently requested the option to place orders in Male' and collect their goods in Hulhumale'.
“That’s the request that comes mostly from Hulhumale'. Instead of going to the wholesale centre to buy goods, they want to pay in Male' and pick them up there [in Hulhumale']. We will arrange that,” he said.
The Hulhumale' outlet will additionally stock 23 items from STO’s basic staples list. It will also retail consumer goods from brands including Hitachi, Philips and LG.
STO already operates a wholesale centre in the Hulhumale' industrial zone. The new outlet marks the expansion of its retail services in Phase 1.
Shimad added that prices of essential food items will be controlled during Ramadan.
