The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has printed new notes which have been put into circulation.
MMA said that new MVR 20 and MVR 100 notes are now in circulation due to an increase in economic activity. As per MMA, the MVR 100 notes in circulation are from 2nd February and the MVR 20 notes are from 16th February.
MMA stated the notes were circulated due to new economic demands and to replace the old notes that MMA receives.
The new notes in circulation are signed by current Governor Ahmed Munawar. The date on the notes is 31st July 2025 (6 Safar 1447). MMA also stated that the introduction of new notes due to a decrease in stock is a regular practice within the money management system.
An important change has been made to the newly released MVR 20 notes. The notes now include a symbol of the MVR. The symbol is on the top left of the front of the note and on the top right of the back of the note.
The latest MVR 100 note print has the same MVR symbol as the MVR 100 notes that were circulated on 7th July 2024.
