STO Managing Director Shimad Ibrahim has announced that a new shipment of cooking gas will be brought in within this week, resolving the gas shortage ahead of Ramadan.

With supply shortages in the global regional market, STO subsidiary Maldive Gas is currently selling 7kg cooking gas cylinders at discounted rates instead of 10kg cylinders.

Speaking to Mihaaru News, Shimad explained that the Maldives' gas market is smaller than in other regional countries, with limited storage capacity, creating ongoing challenges. He noted that cooking gas cannot be imported like regular goods, which contributes to supply issues.

He stated that Maldive Gas will be bringing in a new shipment of cooking gas very soon.

Shimad expressed confidence that 10kg gas cylinders will be made available to the public again by the start of Ramadan.

STO previously stated that there is no shortage of gas, assuring that there is enough supply to manage demand.

Asia has been facing LPG shortages over recent months for various reasons. The issue arose in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh as well.
