Pension Office CEO Shujatha Haleem has handed in her resignation.
Shujatha's resignation follows strong criticism from economic experts over a MVR 2.4 billion government bond investment.
Neither Shujatha nor the Pension Office has provided reasons behind her resignation as of yet.
Last week, former Finance Minister Ahmed Inaz resigned from his position as Chairperson of the Pension Office after he stated he "could not find a sustainable solution" in relation to the same bond. It has also been reported that several senior staff of the office's finance department has also resigned over the matter.
The Pension Office Board reached the decision to invest in the Finance Ministry bond in October last year. Currently, this is being executed.
Shujatha was appointed CEO of Pension Office in October, 2022. Ahead of this, served as Acting CEO for two years.
Shujatha also contributed towards managing the World Bank's Pension and Social Protection Administration Project and drafting the Pension Act.
Her career at the Pension Office spans over 18 years. Prior to assuming the responsibilities of CEO, she served as COO.
