Employees of Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi located in South Male' Atoll have received USD 4,177 (MVR 64,409) as service charge last month.
According to Resort Workers Maldives' Facebook page, the 7-star resort has more than 600 employees, with each employee receiving more than MVR 16,000 weekly in December.
The colder season in most European countries is the peak season for Maldivian tourism. And so, December and January in Maldives sees high service charge amounts for resort employees.
Employees of high class resorts in Maldives received more than USD 1,000 in service charges last month.

A 10 percent service charge in all tourist facilities in Maldives is now legally required. If the service charge is not given, the Labor Relations Authority (LRA) has the power to impose a fine no more than MVR 50,000 upon employers.
