Price of goods rose by 0.95 percent last year

Calculations from the Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) have shown that the price of general goods rose by 0.95 percent within last year.

As per the ECP Index which shows price changes in essential goods, there has been a total increase of 0.95 percent from December 2024 to December 2025 in the price of goods.

The highest increase was seen in beauty products. Prices for personal care items saw an increase of 4.48 percent in the same time frame.

The price of drinks saw an increase of 2.45 percent, with food seeing an increase of 0.43 percent.

The only decrease in prices was with global price changes to oil and gas, with it being a 1.02 percent drop in that amount of time.

When looking at individual food items, even though there has been a decrease of 9.22 percent in certain vegetable prices, the price of fruits have seen a 0.64 percent increase.

As per the index, the price of goods in December last year rose compared to November.

The index shows that total prices rose by 0.51 percent within one month.

The ECP shows the weight average of a basket for essential goods such as food items, oil and beauty products.

The ECP is determined by prices that are set from 96 different products by more than 2,500 businesses.
