Velana International Airport served 8.3 million passengers in 2025

Statistics publicized yesterday by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates VIA, indicate that 8.28 million passengers were served at the airport last year. This is a 7 percent increase from the previous year.

Velana International Airport provided service to 8.3 million passengers in 2025.

Statistics publicized yesterday by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates VIA, indicate that 8.28 million passengers were served at the airport last year. This is a 7 percent increase from the previous year. 

Of these, 5.38 million passengers were on international flights. Domestic travel passengers were at 1.17 million, and 1.73 passengers were seaplane passengers. 

The highest number of passengers in a single day was recorded on December 28. On this day, VIA provided service to 28,381 passengers on wheel based flights. 

Seaplane travel saw the highest demand on February 16, recording 7,439 passengers. 

Last year, air traffic movements were recorded at 249,214, an 8 percent increase from the previous year.

Of this, 34,868 air traffic movements involved international flights, 28,348 were domestic, and 185,998 were seaplane air traffic movements. 

Last year,  Maldives recorded 2.25 million tourist arrivals, a 10 percent increase compared to 2024. Government statistics also show that tourism revenue was at USD 5.4 billion.
