Services commenced today at the seaplane check-in counters at the new Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport.

The seaplane check-in counters are placed in area with air conditioning, designed to provide comfort and convenience to passengers, MACL said.

The seaplane check-in counters at Terminal 1 are located in the area adjacent to the Arrival gate. Passengers will then be taken to the Noovilu seaplane terminal from this area.

In preparation for commencing seaplane check-in services at Terminal 1, trials were held last December. The first trial was held in collaboration with national carrier Maldivian and Villa's FlyMe.

Although the new terminal became operational in July last year, to date, the seaplane check-in area was located at the old terminal.

USD 457 million (MVR 7 billion) was spend on the development of the new terminal at Velana International Airport.

The new terminal now provides service to 39 airlines, with Russian national carrier Aeroflot being the most recent airline to be transferred to Terminal 1.
