The past year saw the State receive MVR 1.9 billion in Airport Development Fees.
According to statistics released by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), Airport Development Fee revenues in 2025 were approximately 70 percent higher than the previous year.
The previous year, the State received MVR 1.1 billion as Airport Development Fee, marking an MVR 800 million increase in last year's earnings.
The increase is attributed to last year's hike in Airport Development Fee and Departure Tax.
The adjustment, which came into effect in january last year, raised the Airport Development Fee charged to foreigners from USD 30 to USD 50. The change, however, did not affect the taxes charged to Maldivians travelling abroad in economy class.
Charges for Maldivians and foreigners travelling in business class was raised to USD 120, while those travelling in first class are now charged USD 240.
Passengers on private jets are charged USD 480, a 300 percent increase from the previous fee.
Approximately 6 percent of State revenue is generated from Airport Development Fees.
Last year, MVR 6.9 billion was received as revenue excluding taxes, with the total revenue at MVR 32.7 billion.
