55 percent of tourist arrivals from Europe, a 15 percent increase

Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry indicate that the highest amount of tourist arrivals were from Europe, coming up to over 55 percent of total arrivals.

A 15 percent increase in tourist arrivals has been recorded in the first week of this year. 

Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry indicate that the highest amount of tourist arrivals were from Europe, coming up to over 55 percent of total arrivals. 

The highest number of arrivals were recorded from Russia, with 9,100 tourists. This is 21 percent of total arrivals. 

Second on the list is Italy, with 7000 tourists, followed by the UK. 

The strongest source market for tourist arrivals in 2025 was China. So far this year, China is sixth on the list, with 1,200 arrivals.

All the countries on the list, except for Poland, were leading source countries for tourist arrivals in the first week of 2025 as well. Last year, France was on the list in place of Poland. 

As of now this year, Maldives has welcomed 43,000 tourists. This shows an increase from the 37,000 tourist arrivals recorded in the same period last year. 

98 percent of tourist arrivals were through Velana International Airport. The other ports where arrivals were recorded were the Maafaru, Gan and Hanimaadhoo International Airports. 

The first week of the year saw an average of 7,300 tourist arrivals per day. 69 percent of tourists spent their holidays in resorts.
