Russia’s national carrier, Aeroflot, has begun operating from the new passenger Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The airline officially opened its check-in counters at the terminal, where departing passengers were presented with gifts.
A total of 384 passengers on Aeroflot’s first flight from the new terminal, SU-320, were welcomed with cultural performances, airport officials said.
Aeroflot, Russia’s largest airline, launched flights to the Maldives in August.
With Aeroflot’s move, Terminal 1 now serves 39 airlines. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said it aims to provide comprehensive, high-quality services to all airlines operating to and from the Maldives.
