Dhiraagu, in collaboration with Women in Tech Maldives, has successfully completed a special serial coding programme for girls titled “Girls to Code Male' Edition.”
The programme is designed to enable young women with no prior coding experience to enter the technology sector and build basic digital skills.
A total of 17 girls completed this year’s Male edition of the programme.
The closing ceremony was attended by Higher Education Minister Ali Haidar Ahmed, Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed, Women in Tech Maldives President Nahuza Ibrahim, along with senior officials from Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ali Haidar said technology is the fastest-growing and most revolutionary field globally, highlighting the importance of learning to use technological tools effectively in everyday life. He added that it is the responsibility of every citizen to become familiar with technology and thanked Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives for their efforts to empower women and build a more inclusive society.
Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed said the programme has successfully attracted many young women to the technology sector.
“I would like to congratulate all the participants who successfully completed the programme. We hope the skills and knowledge gained will help them achieve their educational and career goals and reach greater success,” he said.
Women in Tech Maldives President Nahuza Ibrahim, speaking at the closing ceremony, encouraged participants to continue developing the skills and knowledge gained through the programme.
This year, the age limit for participation was expanded to 16–30 years to better support Women in Tech programme graduates by providing career guidance and encouraging further professional development.
A special career guidance workshop titled “Tech and Beyond” was introduced as part of the programme, where women working in the technology sector shared their experiences with participants.
Participants were taught fundamental coding skills and, despite having no prior experience, learned to build mini portfolio websites by the end of the programme. They also developed capstone projects and received mentorship from industry professionals.
Dhiraagu Girls to Code programme has previously been conducted in Fuvahmulah, Kulhudhuffushi, Thinadhoo, Laamu Atoll, and Dhidhdhoo, training a total of 108 participants to date.
