The duty-free retail area at the new terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA) has been brought into full operation.

The terminal initially began operations without duty-free facilities, but retail outlets were gradually added as airlines transitioned to the new building.

With the opening of the duty-free area, passengers will have access to a wider range of high-end international brands.

In addition to duty-free outlets, boutique stores for selected brands will also operate in the terminal.

Most duty-free retailers have now relocated and are set to officially open tomorrow.

The new terminal will significantly expand the airport’s commercial space. Of the terminal’s approximately 13,000 square metres, about 4,000 square metres have been allocated for duty-free retail.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said the expanded space will allow for a broader selection of luxury brands.

All major airlines operating at Velana International Airport have now moved to the new terminal, which currently serves 37 airlines.
