Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) announced today that the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) has officially surpassed the 500,000 passenger mark.

Since its inauguration on July 26 this year, the facility has processed a total of 255,000 arriving passengers and 252,000 departing passengers, proving its capacity to handle the Maldives' increasing travel demands.

This milestone comes as the airport experiences its busiest period of the year. Yesterday, set a new daily record for the terminal, with over 19,000 passengers served in a single day. This record-breaking traffic included 10,800 arrivals and 8,600 departures, reflecting the peak winter tourism surge as travelers flock to the islands for the holidays.

The transition to the new terminal is now complete for major carriers, with 37 airlines operating from the facility. This includes all the top-tier international airlines servicing the Maldives. The most recent and significant additions to the terminal’s operations were global giants Emirates and Qatar Airways, whose move to the new building has significantly streamlined the arrival and departure process for thousands of luxury travelers.
