Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has formally appointed a specialized "Risk Champions". The appointments were finalized with an awareness session for those staff.
The event was held today at Meeruma, where Assistant Auditor General Ibrahim Fazeel led the training. Following the session, the newly designated Risk Champions were presented with official badges and certificates to commemorate their roles.
This initiative focuses on managing the natural dangers of port work, which is considered a high-risk environment. At the event, MPL’s Chief Risk Officer, Ibrahim Rasheed, explained that the crowded space and layout of the Malé Commercial Harbor require extra-careful safety measures. He noted that these newly appointed employees will do more than just basic office work; they are expected to be "Risk Influencers" who actively promote a safe workplace culture instead of just filling out forms.
"We want our Risk Champions to be more than just people who maintain risk registries and complete paperwork; we want them to serve as 'risk influencers' who work actively to increase risk awareness in practice," he stated.
Under this new framework, one Risk Champion has been selected from every department within the company. These individuals will serve as a vital link between their respective teams and the central Risk and Compliance Department. By integrating risk management into the daily operations of each sector, MPL intends to build a more resilient workforce that is capable of identifying, reporting, and mitigating potential hazards in real-time, thereby ensuring a safer environment for both staff and port users.
