The Bangladesh Medical Education Expo, a collaborative effort between the High Commission of Bangladesh in the Maldives and Eduwest, officially commenced Friday at Nasandhura Barceló.

The expo serves as a comprehensive platform to provide detailed information about medical study opportunities in Bangladesh, showcasing various universities and their specialized facilities. Featuring representatives from 15 Bangladeshi colleges and universities, the event was open yesterday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM for prospective students and their families.

During the opening ceremony, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, Dr. Nazmul Islam, emphasized that this initiative strengthens the existing close ties between the two nations and paves the way for Maldivians to access high-quality education.

He noted that many Maldivian doctors currently serving across the archipelago are graduates of Bangladeshi institutions and expressed his hope to see this number grow to further develop the Maldivian health sector. Dr. Islam also urged students to take  advantage of the various scholarship opportunities, including the SAARC scholarship program offered by his government.

State Minister of Health, Aminath Shirna, highlighted the expo as a crucial bridge connecting Maldivian students with top-tier medical education hubs in Bangladesh.

Supporting this sentiment, Professor Nazmul Hussain, Director General of Medical Education in Bangladesh, reassured attendees that the Bangladeshi government strictly monitors its medical colleges to maintain high academic standards. He pointed out that since nearly 200 Maldivian students travel to Bangladesh annually for internships, completing their full degree there offers a smoother transition and familiarization with the clinical environment.

Beyond academic quality, Professor Hussain remarked that the cultural similarities and shared customs between the two countries make Bangladesh an ideal and comfortable living environment for Maldivian students.

Attendees at the expo have the unique opportunity to receive instant eligibility checks for MBBS programs and secure university placements on the spot. Furthermore, Bangladeshi officials are available at the venue to assist eligible candidates with their applications for the prestigious SAARC scholarships, ensuring that students have expert guidance throughout the enrollment process.
