Maldivian to offer direct flights to Australia

Maldivian has decided to offer direct flights to Melbourne, Australia.

The national airline said that they are cooperating with Australian travel company Luxury Escape to provide this service.

There is currently only a transit option to Australia from Maldivian. With the implementation of direct flights, it marks a significant achievement in aviation between the two nations.

Arrangements are being made from Maldivian to begin direct flights to Melbourne from 17th May 2026 onward, which is the time of year the most tourists from Australia fly into Maldives. The airline said that with these new flights, it will make it easier for Maldivian airlines passengers to travel domestically elsewhere as well.

Island Aviation Managing Director Ibrahim Ilyas said that Australia is an important destination to the Maldivian tourism market.

Australia is one of the top 10 nations when it comes to tourists that come to Maldives. As of now, 40,000 Australians have flown to Maldives.
