Europe accounts for 40 percent of tourist arrivals to Maldives

Overall, 2.1 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, representing a 10 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

European countries account for 40 percent of total tourist arrivals to the Maldives, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism.

The data shows that around 862,000 tourists from six European countries have visited Maldives so far this year, making Europe the single largest regional source market.

Russia recorded the highest number of arrivals from Europe, with 265,000 tourists, making it the second-largest individual source market overall. The United Kingdom followed with 191,000 arrivals, while Germany ranked third among European markets, with 160,000 tourists.

Other European countries contributing significantly to arrivals include Italy, France and Spain. Europe has traditionally remained the Maldives’ strongest tourism source market.

Meanwhile, China remains the largest single source market, with 322,000 tourists, accounting for 15 percent of total arrivals.
