Statistics released by the Finance Ministry indicate that as of now, MVR 608 million from the PSIP budget has been spent on environmental projects this year. 

The data published on December 4 shows that the highest expenditure under environmental projects was on shore protection. MVR 246 million was spent on such projects. 

MVR 229 million was spent on waste management projects, and MVR 132 million on renewable energy projects. 

A total of MVR 7.2 billion has been spent this year on PSIP projects, with 8.4 percent of this going towards environmental projects. The largest expenditure from PSIP projects were on airport and harbour development projects. 

Placing priority of environmental protection, the government charges a Green Tax from the tourism sector as well. 

As of now, the government has received MVR 2 billion in Green Tax revenue this year.
