Bank of Maldives (BML) Head of Brand and Marketing Strategy Mohamed Saeed stated yesterday that BML's ENV POS program is a new sustainable option to financially aid environmental protection projects.

He made this remark during the panel discussion arranged by the Environment Ministry titled "Enabling Local Action: The Role of Small Grants Facilities Strengthening Climate Resilience".

While answering a question regarding the various "grant mechanisms" offered as free aid and other productive endeavors introduced by BML, Saeed said that the bank's current thinking is to aid environmental projects via free aid projects in order to bring about innovative and sustainable results.

Saeed acknowledged the all new ENV POS program introduced by BML to Maldives on 25th June 2025.

He shed light on the important work being conducted by Parley Maldives and Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MAPO) in the protection of Maldivian waters and the environment under the program.

"The bank is aiding Parley in their work to send plastic waste to Germany, Taiwan and Malaysia for recycling as part of their Avoid, Intercept, Redesign Strategy under the ENV POS program," said Saeed.

"We are also aiding MAPO in establishing an additional setup for their material recovery facility in Hulhumale' Phase 2."

As per Saeed, after PET plastic grinders are established, plastic bottles will be converted to granules, with export to recycling facilities in India and Malaysia having been arranged.

The ENV POS program is a long-term aim of BML in the protection of the environment, with every transaction with the BML ENV card machine sending a set amount decided by the bank to aid work being done to protect Maldives' environment.

Customers and businesses do not have to spend any more than they did from their initial transaction.

With every transaction from the machines for the ENV POS cards, customers will directly be aiding environmental protection efforts to protect life underwater for future generations, along with Maldives' fragile environment.

BML continues to take part in environmental protection efforts and the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
