HDC has stated today that the project of repairing roads in Hulhumale' Phase 1 and 2 was awarded to a Chinese company under a settlement agreement, with the project costing MVR 91.8 million.

The agreement states that roads totaling 1.1 kilometers are to be repaired within five to six months, with the project being awarded to Rotime Engineering and Technology Co., Ltd on 3rd December.

Managing Director Ali Zuhair signed on behalf of HDC, with Managing Director Zhou Weidong signing on behalf of Rotime.

As per a statement released by HDC, this project was awarded in the stead of the "temporary workers accommodation in Hulhumale'" development work that was awarded to the company on 2nd October 2022.

The work to build an accommodation block was given to the company as they were also building an international sports stadium at the time. However, as the Hulhumale' Master Plan saw changes, the accommodation block project was halted.

And so, HDC said that the project to repair the roads was given under a settlement agreement.

It is written in HDC's statement that five roads in Hulhumale' Phase 1 and roads leading up to Vinares Flats totaling an area of 19,001 square meters will be repaired up to modern standards. Additionally, 8,012 square meters of broken roads will be repaired with asphalt, as was written in the statement.

As per HDC, the cost of the project, along with GST, is MVR 91,860,829. 50 percent of this cost is to be spread across the first year in a way that does not disrupt cash flow. The remaining 50 percent is to be paid from 2027 spread across the next six years.

HDC stated that the work for the project will begin as soon as possible after the equipment for road repair and machines are mobilized. HDC also said that it is one of their aims to finish this work so that transport becomes easier for Hulhumale' residents.
