Dhiraagu's 2025 calendar, titled "Minivankan
Mathy Abadhah", has dedicated its December page to Maldivian fisheries and
the deep bond between Maldivians and the sea.
The dedication of the December page
to fishing coincides with Fishermen's Day, which is observed today - December
10th. To mark Fishermen's Day, Dhiraagu also shared a special video across
social media platforms.
The video features engaging
information about the relationship between Maldivians and tuna. It explores the
history of fishing in the Maldives, noting that it was the determination and courage
of Maldivian ancestors that led them to venture into the open ocean using their
own vessels to fish for tuna, the fastest type of fish, moving beyond the
reliance solely on reef fish. The video also highlights the various types of
fish commonly caught through the country's sustainable pole-and-line fishing
method.
The "Minivankan mathy abadhah" 2025
calendar was compiled to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Maldives'
independence. Accordingly, each month of the calendar is dedicated to a
different symbol of national identity, connecting it to Maldivian culture and
traditions.
Dhiraagu continues to prioritize and work to engage the public in
preserving and promoting Maldivian culture and heritage through such
initiatives.
