UAE's national carrier and the country's second largest airline Etihad Airways has commenced operations at Velana International Airport's new terminal, Terminal 1, yesterday.
This is the 29th airline to receive services at the new terminal.

Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu inaugurated services for Etihad Airways at Terminal 1 at a ceremony held yesterday. Senior airline officials and MACL representatives attended the ceremony.

The first Etihad Airways flights to land at Terminal 1 brought 180 passengers, who were welcomed with cultural performances. Meanwhile, 305 departing passengers on the first outbound flight from the terminal received gifts.

MACL stated that Etihad Airways, which commenced flights to Maldives on November 1, 2011, is the third UAE airline to shift operations to Terminal 1.
