Alia Group has donated USD 20,000 to Sri Lanka to aid in relief and recovery efforts after the devastating effects of Cyclone Ditwah.

Alia Group's Chief Financial Officer Saman Pushpakumara handed over the donation to the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Maldives Mohamed Rizvi Hassan.

"Sri Lanka and the Maldives share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and close bilateral relations. Many Sri Lankans live and work in the Maldives, contributing significantly to the community across various sectors. In this spirit of partnership and solidarity, Alia’s contribution aims to assist those affected and support ongoing humanitarian efforts," the company stated.

The death toll from floods, landslides and other incidents caused by Cyclone Ditwah has now crossed 330, with authorities still searching for several hundred people who are unaccounted for.

State media PSM, in collaboration with several other media outlets, held a telethon, 'Maldivians with Ceylon', in aid of Sri Lanka, which raised over MVR 11 million.
