BML donates USD 25,000 to Sri Lanka recovery efforts

Bank of Maldives (BML) has donated USD 25,000 (MVR 385,000) to assist Sri Lanka in recovering from the damages caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

The donation was made during the "Ceylon a Eku Dhivehin" dubbed "Maldivians with Ceylon telethon, which was initiated by PSM to help Sri Lanka. The aid was handed over on behalf of BML by its CEO, Mohamed Shareef.

Shareef stated that neighboring Sri Lanka has numerous trade ties with the Maldives, and many Sri Lankan businesses work with BML. He added that BML also holds bank accounts for a significant number of Sri Lankan citizens. He confirmed that this donation is intended to help the country respond to the disaster it faces.

The telethon, which is organized by various media organizations, has successfully raised a total of MVR 1.7 million from different donors, alongside an additional USD 37,000 (MVR 570,000).

To facilitate contributions, fund boxes have been strategically placed in several locations including Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villingili.

The involvement of BML, along with other governmental offices and state-owned enterprises, underscores a collective commitment to providing substantial support through this telethon.
