Hussain "Sunny" Umar, a senior offical of the PR firm The Travel Guys Pvt Ltd, has been removed from the company after allegations emerged accusing him of sexually assaulting minors.
In a statement, Travel Guys said the board had decided to take over Sunny Umar’s shares. The shares were not sold or transferred to any other party, the company said.
"These shares will remain within the company. We will comply with all legal and corporate governance requirements in this regard,” the statement read, adding that all related procedures would be completed “as soon as possible”.
The firm, which also operates a travel agency and Travelution Media under a halal tourism brand, announced the decision on Saturday.
The company stressed that since its inception, Travel Guys has been run by an “international core team”, and that Sunny Umar had no role in the day-to-day operations of Travelution Media.
The team is responsible for all financial, administrative and strategic functions, it said, rejecting rumors that Umar was involved in managing the media outlet.
“Travel Guys rejects harassment, exploitation and all such unlawful practices. The allegations are very serious and personal against Sunny Umar,” the company said, emphasizing that the accusations were unrelated to Travelution’s operations and that the dignity of individuals remained a priority.
Police said they had not received a formal case concerning the allegations but a police media official said that they were aware of the claims and were looking into the matter.
