Austrian Airlines, Austria’s national carrier, has begun operating from Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport (VIA).
A special ceremony was held yesterday to mark the occasion, attended by the Director of Air Navigation and Aerodromes from the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, Austrian Airlines Station Manager Robert Harvey, airline officials, and representatives from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
The airline’s check-in counters at Terminal 1 were officially opened, and gifts were presented to the 321 passengers on the inaugural flight, OS021, who were welcomed with cultural performances.
Austrian Airlines has flown to the Maldives since 2 November 1995. It is now the 23rd airline to operate from Terminal 1, which opened on 26 July this year.
