In addition, the company donated MVR 678,800 to private organisations endorsed by the race. Five NGOs nominated by participants received a combined MVR 200,000. A portion of registration fees and proceeds from the sale of special bib numbers were shared among 13 endorsed NGOs.
Dhiraagu’s CEO and managing director, Ismail Rasheed, said the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race remained the country’s biggest running event and an important social platform supporting organizations that work to protect children’s rights.
“This race symbolizes community unity, participation from all and our efforts to ensure a sustainable environment,” he said. “I thank all participants and sponsors for helping make this year’s race a record success.”
More than 4,500 runners from 44 countries took part this year, along with 28 schools and 128 corporate teams. Dhiraagu also announced that it had offset 100 percent of electricity used during the event through its grid-tied solar system.
