ODS Private Limited has launched the Maldives' first Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program by beginning the purchase of empty plastic bottles.

Under this program, ODS will buy back empty PET bottles of its "ONE" brand, which are produced at the company's One Degree South Addu Factory. Customers can choose to receive 33 Laari per bottle in cash, or they can opt for the equivalent value in Green Points for use in future purchases from the company. For a bottle to be accepted under the EPR programme, it should be emptied, clean, and undamaged, with caps, neck ring and with the company label intact. Bottles that have been used to fill any other substance would not be accepted.

Currently, bottles are only accepted at the One Degree South Addu Factory in Hithadhoo. However, ODS plans to designate collection centers in other islands and cities across the Maldives as the program expands.

The One Degree South Addu Factory was inaugurated in 2017. The company initially focused on multi-use 18.9-liter water bottles, which was an important step in reducing plastic waste in the interconnected islands of Addu City.

The newly launched EPR program aligns with the company's social commitment, environmental goals, and circular economy objectives.

ODS aims for this program to set an example of environmental corporate responsibility, improving the standard of all its products and services while maintaining an eco-friendly and sustainable approach.

ODS Private Limited is a 100 percent Maldivian-owned company. The 18.9-liter, 1.5-liter, and 500-milliliter water bottles produced at the One Degree South Addu Factory are treated using UV and Ozone technology before bottling.
