MPL's Apprenticeship Program has begun

The Maldives Ports Limited's (MPL) Apprenticeship Program has officially begun today. 

The ceremony to begin the program was held at MPL's head office this morning, with 20 applicants receiving offer letters.

Honorable guest Deputy Youth Minister Hussain Jawaz spoke at the ceremony, stating that MPL is a prime example of a company that conducts Apprenticeship Programs. He stated that the current government highly prioritizes increasing job opportunities for the youth and finding training opportunities as well.

"Teaching technical skills to the youth who will enter the workforce is very important. 72 percent of the national Apprenticeship Program applicants are now employed," said Jawaz.

MPL CEO Mohamed RIshwan spoke at the ceremony as well, stating that the aim of the company is to facilitate opportunities for those interested in various harbor related industries, and provide the training that is needed for the youth.

He also stated that the purpose of such programs is to facilitate job opportunities for capable youth who are looking to work at the harbor and provide practical experience. He said that those who joined the program who are deemed capable will receive job opportunities from the MPL.

The MPL Apprenticeship Program is a six month program. Participants of the program will receive an allowance of MVR 5,000.

This year's program includes fields such as Marine Mechanic Apprentice, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Apprentice, Electrician Installation and Maintenance Apprentice, Administrative Apprentice, Furniture Carpentry Apprentice and Welding Techniques Apprentice.

MPL's Apprenticeship Programs have trained more than 300 individuals, with more than 200 of them being given job opportunities. This is the 12th batch for the program.
