A major eye surgery, combined belt buckle and pars plana vitrectomy, has been successfully completed in the Maldives for the first time by EyeCare Hospital. 

The procedure was conducted last Sunday on a 51 year old patient. The surgery was conducted by EyeCare Hospital consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon Dr Amogh Dileep Asgaonkar and his team. 

EyeCare hospital said that the surgery had been undertaken to resolve a retina detachment issue in a patient with hyperopia. 

EyeCare said that this is the first time that a major procedure such as this has been successfully conducted in the Maldives, describing it as a significant success for the hospital.
