British Airways commences operations from VIA Terminal 1

Velana International Airport's new Terminal 1 has now added British Airways to the list of airlines it is serving. 

The commencement of service to British Airways was inaugurated by British Acting High Commissioner to the Maldives Mohammed Toafiq Wahab.

At the ceremony held today, British Airways' check-in counters were officially opened.

Gifts were presented to the 126 passengers on the first British Airways flight to leave from Terminal 1. 

122 passengers from flight BA061, the first British Airways flight to land at Terminal 1, were welcomed with cultural performances. 

British Airways is UK's flag carrier. The airline commenced flights to Maldives on October 26, 2009. 

VIA's Terminal 1 now caters to 13 airlines. British Airways is the first European airline to receive service at the new terminal.
