More than 4,500 participants from the Maldives and abroad are expected to take part in the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race on Friday.
Now in its 16th year, the event is the only international race in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar and features a World Athletics certified route.
This year’s race will be held in three sessions: the half marathon at 2:30 am, the 10km race at 5:30 am, and the 5km race at 4:30 pm.
In addition to the runs, Hulhumale' Central Park will host food stalls, entertainment, and a range of activities during the 5km event.
Continuing its tradition, the race is dedicated to child safety, a key focus of Dhiraagu’s corporate social responsibility programme. The event provides NGOs working in child protection an opportunity to raise awareness and fundraise.
Among the participating organizations, the five receiving the most nominations will share MVR 200,000 to support their programmes.
MVR 100 from each registration fee, as well as proceeds from the sale of special bib numbers, will be donated equally to the selected NGO's.
