The first bulk shipment of boulder rocks for government-funded Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has arrived in the country, the company said.
MTCC said that the shipment marks the beginning of a total 2.5 million tonnes of boulder rock to be imported for PSIP projects given to the company.
It said deliveries will be accelerated before the end of the year to support ongoing infrastructure works.
The initial consignment contained 56,450 tonnes of boulder rock, which will be used for the harbor development project in Baa Atoll Maalhos, MTCC said.
The company added that the projects awarded under the PSIP are large scale developments central to island infrastructure and coastal protection.
MTCC is among the country’s leading firms in infrastructure development.
