Malaysia Airlines was named the 10th airline to begin providing their services in Velana International Airport's (VIA) new terminal yesterday, with a ceremony being held to inaugurate the service.
The airline will now be operating at Terminal 1.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Island Aviation Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas. Malaysia Airlines Maldives Station Head Ahmed Hanam Faiz, airline leaders and officials also attended the ceremony.

The 170 passengers that flew Malaysia Airlines to Maldives yesterday were given gifts in celebration.
A water salute also took place as the first Malaysia Airlines plane taxied to Terminal 1, the MH485. The passengers were also warmly welcomed with cultural activities.

VIA's new terminal officially opened on 26th July, with a cost of USD 457 million (MVR 7 billion) spent on it.
MACL has predicted they will see a revenue increase of 7 to 8 percent in the first year, with a 15 percent increase in the second year. This is to be achieved by giving airlines more opportunities during peak times and by expanding the duty-free section of the airport.
