With fiber broadband services being introduced to the entirety of Maldives earlier this year, Dhiraagu officially marked the beginning of high-speed internet services last night at Barceló Nasandhura.
Dhiraagu CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed spoke at the ceremony, stating that the provision of high speed internet to every island is in the name of establishing a "Digital Maldives". This work was done in order to provide every house with internet services without exception as well, said the CEO. He also stated that it would also promote businesses and communities with them being easily connected to international platforms, allowing for businesses to expand.

CEO Ismail stated that this will open doors for other fields and facilitate various opportunities.
"With this achievement, Maldives will see an increase in investor trust and confidence. It will also facilitate further development and the creation of a decent framework for innovation," said Ismail.

As per Ismail, not many countries have total fiber internet connection across a nation. Dhiraagu being able to provide this service to an island nation such as Maldives is a source of pride for the company, said Ismail.
"This was only possible due to the work we have done in the past. One such example is the submarine cable projects," said Ismail.
Ismail said that Dhiraagu is currently working on introducing more digital services, along with further improving the ongoing services.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan spoke at the ceremony as well, stating that this achievement is a world-class one, with many countries still working to provide such a service to their own people. He also said that his is a historical project from Dhiraagu.
"This achievement is a historical one considering many people had to tolerate some difficulty in acquiring internet services. In the past, it was hard to imagine that all the islands in Maldives would receive high speed internet. This is a national service," said Minister Ihusaan.

As per the minister, this is a crucial step towards Maldives 2.0, a vision started by the current government. He also highlighted that with the government aiming to digitize various services, the establishment of a "digital backbone" such as this is a win for those projects as well.
The government gave a plaque at the ceremony to Dhiraagu to commemorate the achievement and vice versa.
Dhiraagu is the first telecommunications company to provide services to the nation. The company is working towards introducing services for a Digital Maldives.
