Bank of Maldives (BML) will complete the installation of ATMs in all residential islands by the end of this month, the bank said.
BML Head of Brand and Marketing Strategy Mohamed Saeed said that ATMs have already been installed in 95 islands over the past eight months, leaving just 10 islands without the facility.
Installations in these remaining islands; including some in Lhaviyani Atoll, Laamu Atoll, and Addu City are expected to be completed within the next 20 days.
As of late last month, island-based ATMs had processed over 122,000 transactions, totaling MVR 313 million, with MVR 145 million deposited through the machines.
BML began the project in January this year as part of the government’s plan to provide ATM access to all residential islands.
The initiative has been implemented in two phases, building on ATM infrastructure first introduced in the Maldives in 2000. Over the past 24 years, ATMs have been installed in 81 islands outside Male'.
BML opened its 250th ATM in Manadhoo yesterday.
