Gulf Air has begun operating from the new Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport (VIA).
A special ceremony was held yesterday to mark the occasion, chief guest - Visit Maldives Corporation Chairperson Abdulla Giyas officiated the ceremony.

Gulf Air Airport Manager Mohamed Arshad Mohamed Nawas, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Deputy Managing Director Mujuthaba Latheef, and other senior officials from MACL and Gulf Air attended the event.
To celebrate the launch, Gulf Air officially opened its check-in counters at the new terminal and presented gifts to 77 passengers on its flight. The arriving aircraft, GF-145, was welcomed with a water salute and cultural performances.

Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, began flights to the Maldives on 27 October 2019. The airline currently operates one daily flight between Bahrain and Maldives, and another between Sri Lanka and Maldives.
It is the ninth airline to operate from VIA’s new Terminal 1 and the second from the Middle East; joining Maldivian, Air Arabia, Beond, FitsAir, Beijing Capital Airlines, Batik Air, Bangkok Airways, and IndiGo.
MACL said it aims to provide “the most complete and highest quality services” to all airlines operating to the Maldives.
