149,000 tourists arrive last month, 700,000 needed to reach target

As per the Ministry of Tourism's statistics, this is a 12 percent increase from last year. 132,000 tourists came to Maldives in September 2024.

Maldives saw 149,000 tourists come to its shores last month.

As per the Ministry of Tourism's statistics, this is a 12 percent increase from last year. 132,000 tourists came to Maldives in September 2024.

Even though the number of tourists saw an increase last month, an additional 700,000 tourists are needed in order to achieve the administration's goal. 230,000 monthly arrivals are needed in order to achieve it.

During the 2025 Presidential Address, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that they would bring in 2.3 million tourists to Maldives this year.

As of now, 1.6 million tourists have come to Maldives. This is a 9.7 percent increase from last year. 70 percent of tourists that come to Maldives spend their holiday at resorts.

MVR 154 million was allocated for the promotion of the tourism industry. Even though the tourism budget was to be doubled at the beginning of the year, it didn't come to be due to the administration's financial strains. 

More than 1,200 tourism facilities have been established in order to provide tourism services. Maldives has a bed capacity of 65,000.
